Chanute has fabricated thousands of ASME certified headers and is the premier supplier for multiple industries, both for OEM equipment and aftermarket replacements. A sample of our experience is displayed in the images above.

Broad Range of Sizes and Materials

Chanute has built headers ranging from 3" NPS pipe up through 30" diameter and 5+ inches thick, and lengths up to 82 feet long with over 700 tube to header joints. In addition to carbon steel, Chanute has probably fabricated more alloy headers, including hundreds of P91 headers, than any shop in the USA. Stainless steel and duplex 2205 stainless headers are also routinely produced by Chanute.

Expertise That Makes a Difference

With almost 25 years of header fabricating experience, Chanute knows the design and workmanship tips & tricks that help avoid premature failures in the field and extend the service life of your headers after they go into service.

Some material types must also be processed very carefully, in particular P91 Cr-Mo and 2205 duplex stainless. Both of these material types are suseptible to weld cracking during fabrication unless special techniques are employed and various trace elements are controlled in the base and weld-filler materials. With P91 alloy special precautions must also be employed when cutting and forming the pipe and tubing. If not done properly, latent weld cracking can occur after shop NDE and hydrotesting and not appear until after the header has left the shop; through experience Chanute's procedures have been developed to greatly minimize and avoid such problems.

Engineering Upgrades

Chanute is certified with ASME "S", "U", and "PP" Stamps and has an experienced engineering staff that can upgrade your replacement headers to the latest ASME Code. It is also common for our customers to upgrade material types to improve reliability and extends the life of the header, and Chanute's engineers are qualified to evaluate and perform the applicable Code calculations.
